The short version
Sourced has no account and no sign-in. It has no ads. It does not track you across other apps or websites, and it does not use ad identifiers. Your answers and Kept facts stay on your device. RevenueCat receives purchase records so subscriptions work. PostHog receives anonymous usage events, and you can turn those off at any time.
Information stored on your iPhone
Sourced stores a few things on your device:
- your answer to each fact, "Knew it" or "New to me";
- the facts you choose to keep; and
- your settings.
This information stays on your device. Sourced does not send it to a server. Depending on your iPhone backup settings, Apple may include app data in a device backup. Apple handles those backups under its own terms and privacy policy.
Purchases and RevenueCat
Sourced Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment. Sourced never sees your card details. Sourced uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and to show revenue reports. RevenueCat receives your purchase records under an anonymous app user ID. It does not receive your name or email from Sourced.
Apple and RevenueCat handle this information under their own policies:
Usage analytics and PostHog
Sourced uses PostHog to count anonymous app events. PostHog stores them on servers in the United States. The app sends only a fixed list of events. Some examples are onboarding steps, which answer you picked for the day's fact, shares, paywall views, and purchases. Events are sent under an anonymous device ID. They never include your name, email, contacts, location, or anything you type.
You can turn this off at any time. Open Settings in Sourced and switch off Share anonymous usage. PostHog handles this information under its own Privacy Policy.
The daily reminder
The daily fact reminder is a local notification. Your iPhone schedules it on the device. Sourced does not use a push server to send it.
Sharing
Sharing a fact is optional. When you share, the person or app you pick receives what you send. Their privacy practices apply after it leaves Sourced.
Reporting a problem with a fact
Report a problem opens your own email app with a message addressed to james@jamesmckinney.xyz. Nothing is sent until you send it. Whatever you send is used only to fix the fact.
Deleting your data
Your answers and Kept facts live on your device. Deleting the app removes them. An existing Apple device backup may still hold a copy until Apple deletes or replaces it under your backup settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription or erase purchase records kept by Apple or RevenueCat.
Website visits
This policy is hosted on jamesmckinney.xyz. The website may use Google Analytics to collect basic browser, device, and visit information when analytics is enabled. Google explains how it handles that information in its Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
If Sourced's data practices change, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. A big change may also be explained in the app or its App Store listing.
